Apple Crisp


Base:
4 cups of apples, peeled & sliced
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix apples, water, sugar and cinnamon and put into 8" x 8"  pan.

Topping:
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup butter

Mix the brown sugar and the flour. Cut in the butter. Sprinkle on top of apple mix.
Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes.

Grandma's Comments: Good served warm with a scoop of ice cream. But also good the next day. Best if used within 1-2 days.
Refrigerating will soften the crust.



This is one of the first recipes that Grandma Beulah Bandstra made for coffeetime before Grandpa Bert and Grandma Elaine were married. Grandma Elaine usually doubled the recipe. Grandma Beulah is Grandpa Bert's mom. This would be in the early 1960's.
